When I got Serene’s email asking me if I would come to Singapore to photograph her wedding I was beyond excited. I have always wanted to visit Singapore and you can read more about my ‘travel/holiday’ side of things here.
Serene met Gavin whilst she was studying in England and the two of them have since relocated back to Singapore.
Their wedding was a first for me in that it was traditional Chinese wedding. The first part of the wedding day is a customary tea and gifting ceremony (which you can see here). Close family gather at the brides house whilst the bride gets ready. The groom and the groomsmen then ‘gatecrash’ the gathering where the bridesmaids put the guys through a series of ‘tests’ before the grooms is let in to kiss his bride.
In Gavin’s case some of these tests included having his leg waxed and eating wasabe filled cupcakes! I was told by one of the bridesmaids that Gavin got off lightly as these tests can be far more extreme!
Once Gavin passed the tests and got to his bride they then had a tea and gifting ceremony with the brides close family. After this everyone headed to Raffles hotel where another tea and gifting ceremony happened for the grooms side of the family. By the end of it Serene was dripping in diamonds and gold. I think I might have to have one of these weddings some day!
After both tea ceremonies we all headed over to the Carlton hotel for a scrumptious dim sum lunch after which we had a bit of downtime before the next part of the wedding day. To view the Chinese tea ceremony post click here.
Here are some of my favourites from the second part of the wedding day..
